Looking at recent headlines, it has become apparent that background checks are crucial when it comes to stadium operations. If you hadn't considered sending your applicants through a cursory background check when hiring for the sports season, you might want to reconsider. Let's take a closer look at why background checks are important for your stadium hiring decisions.
Ticketing: Anyone in your business who is handling money or credit cards should be carefully screened and evaluated. A credit check is recommended as well. You would not want to run the risk of stolen cash, or worse, credit card numbers.Thousands of customers' credit information could be jeapordized, putting your business in a very undesirable position to your ticket holders.
Guest Services and Security: Tradtionally, stadium security has conducted its own hiring practices. Recently, however, stadiums are pulling the security hiring back under their domain. Have you ever considered your guest services or security agents' backgrounds? A criminal background check is recommended.
Operations: It's a good idea to do a through background check on your operations team as well as considering drug screenings. You can never be too careful when you are talking about the people running your facility.
Concessions: For those who are running concessions and souvenirs, it can't hurt to learn about credit or bankruptcy histories and other past criminal behavior. Often hired by an outside vendor, it is a good practice to submit these employees to the same careful scrutiny that you are other operations staff.
As a hiring manager of stadium operations, it is imperative that you follow a compliant and timely hiring process. Ensuring that your applicants meet your qualifications and successfully pass thorough background checks will help alleviate some of the stress of game day.
